President and Chair of the Board
Shannon Brewster
Shannon currently serves as the LA Chapter President and was a founding board member. He previously served as Treasurer from 2020-2023. Shannon is Director for AT&T’s Cybersecurity Consulting division where is a leader of global services teams of cybersecurity professionals working across all of the major domains of Information Security. Shannon is a CISSP, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and a Master of Business Administration.
Communications Chair
Edwin Covert
Ed is currently the Head of Cyber Risk Engineering for Bowhead Specialty Underwriters. Previously, he held several director positions with Warner Bros, WarnerMedia, and Warner Bros Discovery. Prior to his work in the entertainment industry, he was the Global Head of Security Architecture with Deutsche Bank and a federal contractor in cybersecurity for 20 years. He holds both the CISSP and the ISSAP certifications. He has a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Information Technology Management from Colorado State University. He is a veteran of the US Navy.

Treasurer
Jesse Whitaker
Jesse Whitaker (Certified in Cybersecurity, CC) is the Vice President and Treasurer for the ISC2 LA Chapter. His goal with ISC2 LA for 2023 is to provide compelling and informative content and events to the Southern California cybersecurity community and continue growing a lively and enthusiastic security community that builds bridges to future cyber leaders. He is an experienced cybersecurity professional with a background supporting leading cybersecurity and managed security consulting organizations ranging from BlueVoyant, Optiv, Atos, and Elastic. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri and a Graduate Certificate in Multi-Disciplinary Business Studies from Georgetown University. He is based in Redondo Beach, California.
Membership Chair
Thomas Geerlings
He joined the ISC2 LA chapter in August 2022. Since joining the chapter, he has modernized and improved the technology stack for the organization. His improvements have resulted in increased membership growth, strengthening cybersecurity in the LA area.
Thomas Geerlings has over 20 years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field. He has broad full IT stack experience with a specialization in Cybersecurity. He earned a bachelors in Information Technology. His recent cybersecurity certifications are the ISC2 CISSP-ISSAP and CCSP certifications.
